Introducing Compa's market intelligence platform 🎉
Announcing two new products, Compa Benchmarks (free) and Compa Stock Intelligence, to hasten the transition from surveys to software.
For the past few months, my team and I have been working closely with comp teams from some of the best companies in the world to imagine a complete market data solution for the modern era.
Today, I’m proud to officially launch two new products, Compa Benchmarks and Compa Stock Intelligence. Together with Compa Offer Intelligence (formerly Index), they represent a complete platform, and the first real opportunity for enterprise compensation teams to evolve beyond surveys.
I want to share why companies like Airbnb, T-Mobile, and Micron seek a modern alternative to surveys, and the opportunity our new platform represents.
When Compa invented offers-based market data last year, our goal was to help comp teams overcome survey lag.
The response was incredible, and network participation exploded.
As the markets whipsawed from the great resignation to tech layoffs to AI, survey data continues to feel outdated, and comp leaders understandably feel like they’re flying blind.
Offers-based market data represents the first credible way to measure market change. And the best comp teams in the world use it every day to invest more efficiently, get ahead of fast-moving markets, and bring data (and clarity) where there was none.
At the same time, I understand the limits of offer data.
It’s a powerful measure of market change, but we still need employee data as a foundation.
The elephant in the room 🐘
Our customers don’t just want to overcome lagging survey data.
There’s a bigger problem. The elephant in the room…
Comp teams want to move beyond surveys.
Summertime is survey submission season, and it’s awful. Giant spreadsheets with hundreds of columns, hours of exporting and transforming, formatting currencies, filling out multiple surveys.
And by the time you get the data back, it’s outdated! And then you have to map it back to your own jobs and levels manually to use it.
The survey, as a form factor, was “good enough” for the past few decades, but the world is moving faster, new technologies are available, and comp teams are tired of submitting data.
Our customers asked us to help.
So we’re doing something about it.
Announcing Compa Benchmarks
I’m proud to announce Compa’s newest product, Compa Benchmarks!
With Compa Benchmarks, there is no annual data submission.
Instead, Compa connects directly to your systems of record, unifying data across employees, stock, and offers, all in real-time:
Employee data from the HCM (e.g., Workday)
Stock data from the stock admin system (e.g., E*Trade)
Offer data from the ATS (e.g., Greenhouse)
Compa handles the hard parts — the privacy, security, integrations, and matching technology that make it possible — so you can focus on using the data, not submitting it.
Our objective is simple: to help comp teams shift from surveys to software.
We know this will take time.
And the number one feature request is more data from more companies. Essentially, we have to collectively solve a coordination problem.
So, to make it easier…
Compa Benchmarks is free.
To join, you participate in the give-to-get model, connecting your data over multiple years to contribute to the network’s growth.
Benchmarking is a basic task every comp team must complete.
Compa Benchmarks helps you claim dozens, if not hundreds, of hours back by automating global data submission and streamlining analysis.
When you are ready to move beyond benchmarking, you can adopt Compa’s more powerful tools to manage billions in annual spend with agility and precision.
Announcing Compa Stock Intelligence
If benchmarking is the easy part, stock comp is the hard part.
And if it wasn’t hard enough already, companies are increasingly competing on not just grant values, but also program design.
This confounds the usability of legacy survey data, and hundreds of millions in annual SBC spend go unmanaged with low-fidelity market signal.
We’re changing that.
I’m proud to announce another new product, Compa Stock Intelligence:
Compa Stock Intelligence is a powerful new set of tools for comp teams to understand shifting stock comp market practices and manage retention risk.
Grant-level data (with no PII) flows from your stock admin system in real-time, leveled and matched using employee data from the HCM, to aggregate into market data.
Now you can identify shifting market practices, from vesting terms to RSUs vs Options to New Hire : Refresh ratios.
You also get something I’ve always wanted: market unvested equity.
Finally, you can compare your own employees’ unvested hold to the market to identify retention risk hot spots, all in real-time.
Compa Stock Intelligence is available in a new pricing tier, Compa Pro, alongside offer trends, internal offer reporting, leveling insights, and other powerful Compa tools.
Where we go from here
With today’s product announcements, Compa offers a complete market intelligence platform, including market data based on offers, and now employees and stock grants, too.
Our vision is to lead the inevitable evolution from surveys to software, liberating comp teams from painful survey submissions, and revealing powerful new ways to measure the market and compete for talent.
Privacy and security are at the core of everything we do. Compa is built for the best enterprise compensation teams in the world, and we are setting the modern standard for how to keep your data safe.
With our complete market intelligence platform now available, we’ve also made a few tweaks to the look and feel of Compa. Check out our new website, and our new logo below.
Art & science
Compensation, as we’ve said for decades, is both art and science.
Now Compa takes care of the science, so you can focus on the art.
